چکیده
20 In view of gathering baseline information about the prevalence of animal trypanosomosis, 21 the Pan African Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Campaign (PATTEC) funded a cross 22 sectional survey in the Region of the Boucle du Mouhoun which constitutes the Northern 23 limit of the tsetse distribution in Burkina. This cross sectional study was carried out in 53 24 villages located in the 6 provinces of the region. A total of 2002 cattle, 1466 small ruminants 25 and 481 donkeys were sampled. This survey showed that about 25% of the cattle had been 26 treated with trypanocidal drugs within 3 months before the survey compared to 3% and 27 0.42% for the small ruminants and donkeys respectively. Parasitological prevalence in cattle 28 was low: 0.77% (95% C.I. 0.30-1.95%). No goats and three donkeys were found infected with 29 trypanosomes. Infections were mainly due to Trypanosoma vivax (75.0%) with cases of T. 30 congolense (25.0%). In cattle, the serological prevalence of trypanosomosis, for the entire 31The age and distance to the river were the two main 34 risk factors associated with seropositivity. 35

Contrasting Population Structures of Two Vectors of African Trypanosomoses in Burkina Faso: Consequences for Control
BACKGROUND African animal trypanosomosis is a major obstacle to the development of more efficient and sustainable livestock production systems in West Africa. Riverine tsetse species such as Glossina palpalis gambiensis Vanderplank and Glossina tachinoides Westwood are the major vectors. A wide variety of control tactics is available to manage these vectors, but their removal will in most cases...

Tsetse eradication is impossible in many parts of Africa given environmental, political, and economic circumstances. Animal African trypanosomosis (AAT) control then relies on implementation of local, integrated control strategies by communities or farmers that must take into account the eco-epidemiological context and the cattle rearing system to be sustainable.

BACKGROUND Tsetse flies transmit trypanosomes that cause human and African animal trypanosomosis, a debilitating disease of humans (sleeping sickness) and livestock (nagana). An area-wide integrated pest management campaign against Glossina palpalis gambiensis has been implemented in Senegal since 2010 that includes a sterile insect technique (SIT) component. The SIT can only be successful when...
متن کاملA Spatio-temporal Model of African Animal Trypanosomosis Risk
BACKGROUND African animal trypanosomosis (AAT) is a major constraint to sustainable development of cattle farming in sub-Saharan Africa. The habitat of the tsetse fly vector is increasingly fragmented owing to demographic pressure and shifts in climate, which leads to heterogeneous risk of cyclical transmission both in space and time. In Burkina Faso and Ghana, the most important vectors are ri...
متن کاملEpidemiology and control of trypanosomosis.
Tsetse-transmitted trypanosomosis remains a major constraint to the development of agriculture, particularly to that of livestock production in sub-Saharan Africa. It is estimated that 10 million km2 of Africa are tsetse infested, exposing some 50 million people and 60 million cattle to the risk of trypanosomosis. The epidemiology of the disease is complex and is greatly influenced by managemen...
